KVON/KVYN (Napa, CA) radio veteran Ira C. Smith has been named the 2017 Ambassador of the Year by the Napa Chamber of Commerce. Smith was recruited from the University of Michigan football network in 1976 and moved his family to the Napa Valley. He continues to cover sports, talk, and news.
During the North Bay fires, KVON was the “lifeline” for many Napa County residents. Cell phone towers melted, public power and utilities were down, and people were without access to their TVs. After 42 years on the job, Smith provided comfort, relief, and critical information to the community. The Napa Chamber recognized his efforts.
